The Real Energy Drainer During the Day

August 7, 2016 By Uncoveries

real energy drainer

At first I didn’t think this applied to me. I didn’t realize I was expending more energy than I needed to—in more ways than one.

I tend to focus my eyes intently when I’m reading, writing, watching or talking—and especially more so when I’m working or concentrating on something. Sometimes, I inadvertently furrow my eyebrows and squint, which increases the pressure. It’s become a habit—a mannerism done unconsciously.

No big deal right? Well, let’s just say it’s actually a bigger deal than I thought.

Growing on the Uncertain Path

Growing on the Uncertain Path

I recently learned about the Enneagram of Personality and discovered I’m the number five personality type. Type five is known as the thinker, observer, investigator—among other similar names. Like the other eight types, it comes with its strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies.

It all began with a library book on the subject. I was then guided to an assessment from the book. I wasn’t entirely swayed by the summary I initially read after receiving my results. Yet the more I read, the more I realized the patterns described have played out similarly in my life.

Real Talk on the Next Phase for Uncoveries

July 6, 2016 By Uncoveries

It’s been about a year and half since I began writing regularly* on Uncoveries.

And by regularly*, I mean once a week when I’ve been timely, and two to three times a month when I haven’t been as prompt (I’ll spare you the excuses).

It’s about time for some real talk—about the next phase for Uncoveries, a couple changes, and the reason behind them.

Why am I doing this now?

Optimize: The Rewards of Expertise

Optimize The Rewards of Expertise

When the tumultuous trek fades into a calm stroll, it’s initially hard to believe.

Immersed in the daily toil of building towards our goal or dream, we’re taken aback that we’re suddenly there. We’ve lost count of all the steps in the process—but at some point, the effort from the previous phases Reassess, Erase, Explore and Build all come together to the most desired phase for many: Optimize.

4 Reasons To Be A Little Foolish

August 11, 2015 By Uncoveries

Thinking back, I can’t help but shake my head. Wow, was I naïve.

Just 6 months ago, I had idealistic expectations of how being a freelancer and entrepreneur was going to go. I planned out big goals, action steps and milestones. I thought things were going to work out a certain way by this time and that.

Are You Too Practical For Your Own Good?

April 25, 2014 By Uncoveries

too practical for your own good

I’m a recovering practical. It’s only recently that I’ve admitted this as a weakness.

I realized practicality has been a crutch since I was first faced with uncertainty on what I wanted to do with my life. It started at age 16, when I decided to attend an accelerated program towards an engineering degree simply because my dad was an engineer.

That was an acceptable starter decision. Yet the series that followed were increasingly worse offenders—a mixture of elimination, circumstance, convenience and the deepening poison of practicality.
